Town Hall: Defending Climate Research

April 21, 2025
7:00 PM - 9:00 PM
America/New_York
Mudd Hall, 500 W. 120 St., New York, NY 10027 825

How should Columbia resist corporate influence in the face of federal funding cuts?  How have fossil fuel corporations influenced academia? What should the role of fossil fuel companies be in academia? Is receiving fossil fuel funding permissible or at odds with institutional values? At this town hall, we welcome undergraduate and graduate students, professors, researchers, and administrators to share their experiences and opinions on fossil-funded research.

Columbia’s fossil fuel ties – particularly at the Center for Global Energy Policy – have recently been the subject of scrutiny, leading to the creation of a University Committee in July 2024.

Registration is not required but heavily encouraged. Register here.

This event is sponsored by Sunrise Columbia and the Environmental and Climate Justice at Columbia (ECJaC) Project at the Climate School.
