Elif is a senior at Columbia University, studying Information Science and History, following two years at Trinity College Dublin, where she studied Middle Eastern and European Languages and Cultures. Having lived in Turkey, Ireland, and now New York, she brings a multicultural perspective to her work, speaking Turkish, English, and German, and currently learning Arabic. Her experiences have strengthened her understanding of cultural patterns and social structures, increasing her interest in how these dynamics influence human behavior, decision-making, and power relationships. She is working with the Building Back Better in Hatay project.

Academically, Elif focuses on product development, user research, and innovation, along with the modern history of the Middle East, particularly around themes of uncertainty and technological change. Originally from Adana, Turkey, and having spent her childhood in Hatay, she has seen the severe impact of the February 6 earthquake on her family, friends, and community. This experience led her to this project, where she is committed to helping build resilience in her region and contribute to effective disaster planning.

Elif also serves as Events Coordinator for the Columbia Turkish Students Association, where she helps the Turkish community at Columbia feel at home while far from home by organizing events throughout the year. She is interested in human-centered design and innovative solutions, aiming to create resilient, sustainable approaches to support communities.
