Building Back Better in Hatay: Co-designing a Multi-Stakeholder, Multi-Hazard Urban Development Approach
March 5, 2026 – 9am - noon The Forum at Columbia University
601 W. 125th St. (Foyer)
Three years after the devastating earthquakes in Hatay, a city with a rich and long history in southeastern Türkiye, rebuilding continues while challenges remain, particularly with the potential impacts of interacting and compounding hazards, including climate change, in the region.
This event presents high level insights from Columbia Global - Turkish Philanthropy Funds Resilience Initiative project “Building Back Better in Hatay.” It will discuss the ways in which a multi-hazard risk-informed urban recovery in Hatay can be achieved and how international academic partnerships can support resilience building in the region. The event will also highlight the visions and voices of young people with an exhibition of the student work of Columbia University and Hatay Mustafa Kemal University, a key player in local resiliency and a project partner in the region.
