CSUD Welcomes Visiting Scholar Ethel Pinheiro

The Center for Sustainable Urban Development (CSUD) is thrilled to announce that Dr. Ethel Pinheiro, an esteemed scholar from the Universidade Federal de Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), will be joining us as a visiting professor from July to September 2025.

Dr. Pinheiro was one of only 12 researchers from Rio de Janeiro selected by FAPERJ (Rio de Janeiro State Research Support Foundation) for this prestigious scholarship. Her research, titled "Affective Cartographies of Invisible Cities: Sensitive Mapping of Spaces Inhabited by People on Streets," will explore innovative approaches to understanding urban spaces and the lived experiences of unhoused populations.

We look forward to hosting Dr. Pinheiro during the vibrant summer months in New York City and engaging with her thought-provoking work that explores the unhoused, their perspectives and needs, in Rio and New York, work that aligns deeply with CSUD's mission to foster inclusive and sustainable urban development.

Please join us in welcoming Dr. Pinheiro to our academic community!
